A massive upgrade on the 18v version

DEWALT DCD985 is a massive step up from my old 18v dewalt drill. It has three modes - hammer drill, drill, and driver. In hammer drill mode, it will drill through 3" of brick in 4 seconds. I've never used a portable tool like it. The mechanical aspects of it are a bit intense - when you first pull the trigger, you can see the blue sparks inside the drill as 20v of power kicks in. The clutch makes a rather loud clunk when it engages - but after a few uses it settles down. Absolutely a powerful professional tool.

Much Improved

I recently purchased this drill as a replacement for a Milwaukee. As always, Amazon's shipping was very quick and arrived in perfect shape. FIRST IMPRESSIONS: PROS: This drill's power is stout. Nothing that I have attempted so far has been able to slow it down. The trigger is sensitive enough to manipulate for fine screw insertion. The light is useful and stays on for a couple of seconds after the trigger is released. It is really useful in shaded or darkened areas. The drill is heavy, but for the power it generates, well worth it. The chuck is steel and grips bits solidly. The "slide in" style batteries are excellent and easy to put on and take off. These type of batteries also allow for a slimmer handle which I find more comfortable than the older ones with the "post" style battery. CONS: It is a little big for smaller or more delicate jobs - kind of like trying to sink a finishing nail with a sledge-hammer. The light shines slightly under the end of the bit, however, it beats trying to hold a flashlight. The three-position speed control is a bit stiff (hopefully it will smooth up over time/use). The hard case is nice but lacks useful storage for several bits of any size. Can put a few in the case loose. The drill is heavy and can get to you after a while - especially overhead. The "forward/reverse" slide button just above the trigger is a little stiff - however you won't bump it off one way or the other like on some drills. CONCLUSION: If you are looking for a very solid (and solid feeling) drill, this is the one. Power, power, and more power.

Surprisingly Powerful Compact Drill with Strong Stable Batteries

I have the B/D 20 volt trimmer and sweeper Combo(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00646TJT2/ref=oh_details_o08_s00_i00) and it has exceeded my expectations except maybe battery life even though i had an idea about it from reviews prior to purchase. They use the same batteries(except they are higher capacity) and charger as this drill. I basically bought this drill(not @Amazon) to get another charger and battery for my trimmer combo. Having said that, I have been impressed with this drill ever since. The size and weight of this drill is astounding,making it as useful a tool as I have in my arsenal. I do allot of work on the go and carrying anything heavy or extra is a burden. I now have abandoned my heavier drills 90 % of the time in favor of this one. This amazing drill fits in my main go box with all three batteries! Meaning i am never without my drill or the capacity to work longer. Due to its size and weight it is easy to work with overhead, on ladders and roofs as well as in tight sots and spaces. It has yet to fail to provide enough torque for any project i have needed,yet i obviously know when i need a corded drill for a job. So i highly recommend this drill for the average do it yourself-er and maybe as a addition to a home contractors tool kit.

Excellent Drill

I haven't used it much, but at least it's holding a charge. It's also lighter weight than my old NICad version and it has more torque settings to get the exact precision for a screw. I got the 30 piece accessory kit with it. It's a great drill at a great price. 20-volt lithium-ion drill after being used to much more expensive, less powerful bottom-heavy NiCad drills from the top brands. Highly recommended!20-volt max battery is shared across B%D's mew line of DIY and lawn and garden tools. The charge lasts all day when used in the drill but is a bit short on staying power for the string trimmers, hedge trimmers, and chain saws (though those are still a bargain once one has a few of the batteries on hand). Also new to the B&D 20-volt Max family are the Matrix tools where drills, saws, sanders, and more can be powered by a single motorized body.

Great cordless drill

the best cordless drill I've ever had.Works great, always is charged up as I bought an extra battery,Keeps its charge for a good while and seems to be more powerful than other cordless drills I've used. Always ready for a job. but I have yet to use the extra battery as a battery charges up so quickly it is ready in 30 minutes. Finally a drill that maintains its charge without having to leave it plugged in and charging and chancing an overcharge.
